EDL’S GURAMIT SINGH RESPONDS TO EXCOMMUNICATION ULTIMATUM WITH DOUBLESPEAK & RELIGIOUS HYPOCRISY

Source: Turban Campaign

Admin note: This article was first published by Jai at PickledPolitics. However, it was later edited due to length issues. We feel that this particular article deserves to be published in its entirety as it highlights some very important points.

Further to the recent Pickled Politics article highlighting the EDL’s “Sikh” spokesman Guramit Singh’s admission of hatred towards other South Asians along with his ridicule of the God of Sikhism & Islam, plus the EDL’s escalating hijacking of Sikh imagery, some further information about Guramit himself is continuing to come to light.

Doublespeak in action

A new Youtube video focusing specifically on Guramit is an excellent compilation and definitely worth watching in full. The repeated juxtaposition of Guramit’s disingenuous assertions about the EDL compared with the ugly reality demonstrates the point particularly effectively. You can watch the video via Youtube here.

“I consider the Guru Granth Sahib to be my Guru”

In response to the recent ultimatum issued to Guramit, stating that he must renounce the EDL or potentially face excommunication by the global Sikh authorities at the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, Guramit subsequently released a public statement on the EDL’s main blog declaring that he refuses to leave the EDL irrespective of the ultimatum and threatening retaliation (including making a sinister threat to involve unspecified supporters from “outside the Sikh community”) if any attempts were made to excommunicate him.

Along with claiming that the EDL are the modern-day ideological counterparts of Guru Gobind Singh’s historical Khalsa — an assertion which is not only highly presumptuous but also extremely inaccurate — Guramit also referred to various aspects of Sikh theology and history in an attempt to justify his own behaviour to date as a high-profile member of the EDL. Guramit’s statement included the following self-contradictory remarks:

Although I am not a practicing Sikh myself, I consider Guru Granth Sahib Ji to be my Guru. This religion has taught me a lot, and continues to be an inspiration to me.

As a Sikh myself, let me make the following indisputable fact absolutely clear for the public record:There is nothing whatsoever in the entire Guru Granth Sahib supporting any of theobscenity-laden claims Guramit has repeatedly been making about Islam, Muslims, the Prophet Mohammad and Allah. Not even remotely.

In fact, the Guru Granth Sahib’s core message is precisely the opposite; it even includes hundreds of sacred verses originally written by Muslims, along with Islamic names for God such as “Allah”. And the same humanitarian message of the unity of God irrespective of what name people call their deity by and the unity & equality of mankind irrespective of what religious affiliation people may identify themselves by is also deliberately symbolised in the architecture of the Golden Temple itself; “Allah” and Muslims are explicitly included.

Guramit’s assertions are directly contradicted by the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, no less, who personally compiled the final version of the Guru Granth Sahib, which Guramit claims to be familiar with and to hold in such reverence. Guru Gobind Singh essentially summarised the core message of the Guru Granth Sahib and thereby the fundamental humanitarian & theological message of Sikhism in the Akal Ustat, which makes the religion’s actual stance towards Islam, Muslims and Allah crystal clear:

“Someone calls himself a Hindu, another a Turk, someone a Shia, another a Sunni. Recognise the whole of humanity as one race……

He the One is the only God of us all: it is His Form, His Light that is diffused in all…..

The temple or the mosque are the same, the Hindu worship or the Muslim prayer are the same; all humans are the same, it is through error they appear different…..it is the one God who created all.

The Hindu God and the Muslim God are the same; let no man even by mistake suppose there is a difference.”

“Islam-apologists”

Bear in mind that Guramit is on record as publicly describing Islam as “evil”, along with publicly claiming that there is no difference between Islam in general and “militant Islam”.

His recent public statement on the EDL’s website responding to the aforementioned ultimatum also includes a derisive reference to what he terms “Islam-apologists”. Therefore, by Guramit’s own warped definition, that would make Guru Gobind Singh himself an unequivocal “Islam-apologist”.

And the same allegation would apply to – for example — the Sikh Guru who invited a Muslim saint tolay the foundation stone of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Or the Sikh Guru who had a mosque builtfor the Muslim population of the town he’d founded in Punjab. Or the Sikh Guru who gave military assistance to the Mughal crown prince Dara Shukoh during the war of succession against Aurangzeb, after the latter had imprisoned (and ultimately successfully overthrown) their father Emperor Shah Jahan.

The Letter of Victory

In his recent public statement attempting to justify his own conduct, Guramit also mentioned theZafarnamah, meaning the “Letter of Victory”. This was a defiant letter which Guru Gobind Singh wrote in Persian to the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, condemning him for his religious bigotry, false piety and abuse of power.

Guramit stated that, in the letter, Guru Gobind Singh condemned Aurangzeb for breaking oaths he’d taken on the Quran. However, what Guramit conveniently failed to also mention is the fact that the same section of the letter includes the following remarks by Guru Gobind Singh:

“If the Prophet [Mohammad] himself were here, I would make it my special object to inform him of your treachery.”

The Guru continues:

“I knew not that you, O man, were a perjurer, and a worshipper of self, and a breaker of faith. Nay, you keep no faith, nor mind religion, nor know God, nor believe in Mohammed. He who observes the tenets of his faith, he makes a promise but never to break it. You have no idea of what an oath on the Quran is: Nay, you have no faith in the One God.”

Guru Gobind Singh’s eloquent condemnation of Aurangzeb, of course, also has pertinent ramifications for Guramit’s similarly bigoted, dishonest and self-aggrandising egotistical behaviour. And again, Guru Gobind Singh’s own stance directly contradicts the various obscenity-laden allegations Guramit has repeatedly made against the Prophet Mohammad and Islam as a whole, including public speeches at EDL rallies where Guramit has also openly demonised Britain’s entire Muslim population and sadistically revelled in his persecution of them.

Guramit is conspicuously silent about a few more historical facts: Firstly, Guru Gobind Singh listed in the Zafarnamah what he believed to be Aurangzeb’s redeeming qualities and stated that if Aurangzeb would reconsider his bigotry, hypocrisy and fanaticism, the Guru would be happy to meet him and would treat him with great kindness. Guru Gobind Singh’s letter does indeed seem to have finally struck a nerve with Aurangzeb; the emperor immediately ordered his officers to stop harassing the Sikhs, and both Guru Gobind Singh and Aurangzeb made preparations to amicably meet each other. Unfortunately the aged emperor died before they could actually meet, although Aurangzeb’s letters to his sons in his final days indicate a profound regret for his wasted life.

Saint of India

Furthermore, not once in the Zafarnamah or at any point in his entire life did Guru Gobind Singh ever express any animosity towards Islam. On the contrary; as can be seen very clearly indeed in the extract above from the Zafarnamah, the Guru’s main allegation against Aurangzeb was that the emperor’s attitudes were a result of him not being a genuinely pious Muslim, and that if Aurangzeb had been a true believer in (and follower of) Islam then he would never have engaged in such behaviour. Guru Gobind Singh’s stance was of course the exact opposite of the EDL and Guramit’s own attitudes towards Islam and Muslims.

The story doesn’t end there. After Aurangzeb’s death, Guru Gobind Singh provided extensive military assistance to one of the late emperor’s more liberal sons during the war of succession for the Mughal throne and played a pivotal role in facilitating the prince’s victory, for which the new Mughal emperor – Bahadur Shah I – subsequently publicly honoured Guru Gobind Singh with the formal title Pir-i-Hind, meaning “Saint of India”.

Words from the wise

Guramit made the following remark in his recent public statement: “My religion teaches that the truth will always prevail.”

Readers can draw their own conclusions about the underlying reasons for the often vast gulf between what Guramit claims about his own actions and what he actually does. Either way, as someone who claims to be familiar with the Guru Granth Sahib, Guramit should never forget the very first words on the very first page, written by Guru Nanak himself: ”There is one God; His name is Truth”. Or Guru Gobind Singh’s declaration in the Zafarnamah: “He alone is a man who keeps his word; not that he has one thing in the heart, and another on the tongue”.

Failing that, Guramit would do well to heed the following famous advice by President Abraham Lincoln:

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.”

Overview of yesterOverview of today’s Brighton protestsday’s Brighton protests

Source: Sussex Police

Today (Sunday, 24 April) saw March for England and a counter-protest group take to the streets of Brighton & Hove. Numbers of protesters is thought to have been around 300 in total.

Both groups of protesters gathered at assigned locations outside Brighton Railway Station at around midday. They marched along separate routes, guided by police to Victoria Gardens where they arrived at around 1.15pm. The organisations were able to hold their rallies due to officers maintaining a distance between both groups. The protest marches then made their way back to Queens Road, eventually dispersing at around 3pm.

Superintendent Steve Whitton said: “I am pleased with how the policing of today’s protest marches has gone. Having had dialogue with the organisers of March of England in the run up to today’s demonstrations enabled us to establish their intentions which were adhered to and in turn minimilised disruption to the city. Unfortunatley the counter-protesters did not engage with us and therefore it was necessary to have support from neighbouring police forces and British Transport Police.

“The Sussex Police helicopter played a crucial role in the policing of today’s demonstration and counter-demonstration, helping to provide a safe environment for both protesters and the public. The camera on the helicopter provided a unique view not only of the protest, but wider area, helping to keep traffic moving and minimise disruption in the city for residents, visitors and businesses. Police will continue to maintain a visible presence in the city this evening.”

There were a total of eight arrests today, the majority for public order offences and are currently in custody awaiting interview.

Team Poison Confirm FB Deleted EDL Hate Page

Team Poison have spoken out today about their involvement in the technical difficulties experienced by the English Defence League at the weekend, and have revealed that it was in fact Facebook who took the decision to remove the Islamophobic group’s fan page from it’s network.

Team Poison did admit responsibility for the information leaks, and issued the following statement:

Team Poison come clean

Having racked up hundreds of thousands of reports of FB rule-breaking, racism, abuse, threats of violence and incitement, the page was finally removed by Facebook on Saturday morning, St George’s Day. Replacement groups sprang up quickly, but were inevitably cowed by paranoia over the origins of the groups, many of whom were thought to have been created by enterprising anti-fascists in a bid to further confuse and mislead the EDL.

Team Poison’s confessions will cause further ire and panic among the EDL, who will now be aware that the chances of them ever regaining their page are remote; Facebook rarely, if ever, reinstates pages it has disabled, especially when they are full to bursting point with violent threats and hatred.

At the time of going to press, the EDL’s biggest replacement page was struggling to get above 3,000 ‘likes’, and remain oblivious to the fact that many of those who have rejoined are still anti-fascists, journalists, researchers, etc, etc…..

Hacked EDL Hate Group Reinstated As Leadership Fail To Grasp Point

So, what have we learned in the past 24 hours?

After a day spent whining about what victims they are, the poor, unloved English Defence League has had it’s main fan page reinstated by Facebook, complete with all the vile racist, intolerant and inciteful  material contained therein. And so the predictably misguided bragging begins.

However, it has to be pointed out that the replacement groups set up in panic yesterday failed to scrape even 3,000 members, despite widespread spamming of the links and begging comments, imploring ‘likers’ to ’share, share, share’.

Two things strike us as noteworthy here;

Firstly, despite their constant posturing, the EDL’s actual fanbase seems to comprise only a handful of die-hards, and when it comes down to it, the tens of thousands on the original group were not falling over themselves to get behind the EDL a second time. This seems to support the longstanding notion that the vast majority of ‘likers’ on the EDL’s main page are not supporters of the group at all, and a large number of direct opponents to their fascism are among the original page members. The EDL need to get real and accept that the numbers that come out to support them on the streets really do represent their network in terms of real supporters.

Secondly, the rumours that Team Poison were involved in this incident also are gaining momentum. It’s important to remember that any group or page on the Facebook network that has been tampered with will be given back to it’s creators if it can prove that there is foul play at work. It does not mean that Facebook is in any way supportive of the EDL or it’s divisive message.

Darcy Jones, creator of Exposing Racism & Intolerance Online, said:

On the upside: us, the press, security services and the public have their free resource to just how insane the EDL really are, back. The Facebook fan page has led to convictions, derision and wide spread scorn for a crank movement intent on pretending it’s a ‘human rights’ organisation. I still think it should be toasted but thems the breaks.

Editor’s note: since this article went to press, the EDL main page has once again been removed from Facebook.

EDL Troops Hypocrisy Exposed As Parade Bottle-Thrower Is Sentenced

Source: Warwick Courier

A MAN who took aim with a bottle as English Defence League supporters clashed with young Asians during an army parade has escaped being jailed – despite being sentenced for affray days before the clash.

Daniel Groves, 23, of Kettlewell Close, Warwick, pleaded guilty at the crown court in Leamington to a charge of affray and was sentenced to six months in prison suspended for two years.

He was given 18 months supervision, banned from all pubs and clubs for three months and made subject to a 8pm to 6am electronic-tag curfew for the same period.

The court heard that Groves had convictions for affray and public order offences and four days before the clash had been given a community sentence for an affray in Warwick town centre.

Prosecutor Vicki Lofrese said in September the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers were on parade in Nuneaton when police spotted English Defence League (EDL) supporters heading towards a pub.

She said: “Large banners were being paraded and slogans shouted from members of that group, including ‘I am English ’til I die’ and ‘St George in my heart.’

“Police saw a group of about 20 in the drinking area outside singing the same slogans and ‘Taliban scum’ as a group of young Asian men began to congregate outside.”

As the tension mounted and police struggled to keep them apart, Groves was spotted throwing the bottle, which smashed near the Asian youths, and he was arrested after a struggle.

He claimed the Asians were planning to attack them, denied being a member of the EDL but said he believed in its policies and was “against radical Muslims”.

Groves said that the EDL protected British troops by providing a target for those protesting against them.

Peter Freeman, defending, said: “Nuneaton is a long way from Warwick, but this was a trip with his friend whose cousin was in the regiment.

“He is standing there chatting with a bottle in his hand. He is about five rows back, and something triggers him to lob the bottle.

“ He does not know whether it was a coin or a pebble, but something struck him and he lost his rag.

“He says it is not right that people can turn up and shout abuse at our soldiers, but he never went there looking for trouble.”

Mr Freeman said Groves has had “a glowing report” from his probation officer.

Mrs Justice Macur told Groves: “I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that this offence was not racially or religiously motivated – but you are running out of chances.”

Royal wedding to be ‘protected by EDL ring of steel’…. as Leader ‘Surrenders’ By Going On Holiday

Editor’s note: Please don’t laugh too hard – one of us pulled a muscle reading this.

Ring of what? Stephen Lennon claims EDL will 'protect' royal wedding from 'extremists', failing to realise that his group pose a bigger threat with their drunken antics

THE leader of the English Defence League says the organisation’s members will risk prosecution in a bid to protect next week’s royal wedding from Islamic extremists.

EDL leader Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, who goes by the pseudonym Tommy Robinson, said ‘50 to 100’ members would be at each train station near Westminster Abbey to prevent extremist Muslims from reaching the ceremony.

Muslims Against Crusades announced this week that it planned to demonstrate outside the April 29 ceremony, but its bid was blocked yesterday by the Metropolitan Police.

The group was behind the burning of a poppies on Armistice Day last year.

In an announcement on its website, Muslims Against Crusades said it hoped “the day which the nation has been dreaming of for so long will become a nightmare”.

Mr Yaxley-Lennon, who runs a tanning salon in Hastings Street, Luton, said EDL members planned to physically stop Muslim extremists getting to Westminster Abbey.

“The police will let them have their protest but we’ll be at each train station to make sure they don’t come,” he said.

“It’s going to be a public order offence – there will be mass disorder. We will form a ring of steel around that wedding.

“It will be ordinary members of the public going in to prevent a crime because the police won’t stop it. “We will be issued with Section 14 orders because we would cause a breach of the peace.”

In its statement yesterday, Muslims Against Crusades said Prince William should “withdraw from the crusader British military and give up all affiliation to the tyrannical British Empire”.

They said the demonstration was justified to highlight Britain’s “quest to occupy Muslim land and wage war against the religion of God”.

Mr Yaxley-Lennon said ordinary Muslims heading to Westminster Abbey would have nothing to fear from the English Defence League.

“Muslims Against Crusades will be carrying black flags and will be in uniform so we will know who they are,” he said. “As soon as they come out of any station there’s going to be chaos.”

Asked whether he was concerned that the EDL’s presence would only cause further disruption, he said: “It can’t get any worse than if Muslims Against Crusades turn up. You have freedom of speech but this is ordinary members of the British public who are angry about this, which is what happened when they tried to disrupt the Poachers’ parade in Luton.”

Mr Yaxley-Lennon said he would not be in London himself on April 29 as he will be away on holiday.

EDL member jailed for Liverpool Street football brawl

Source: BBC

An English Defence League (EDL) member has been jailed for nine months after taking part in a pre-arranged brawl between football supporters in London.

Joel Titus, 19, took part in the “pitched battle” between supporters of Brentford and Leyton Orient outside Liverpool Street station in May 2010.

Titus, of Pinner, north-west London, and five other men admitted affray.

The brawl, during which people punched, kicked and threw bottles, was by “prior arrangement”, the Old Bailey heard.

Dean Wells, 22, of Isleworth, west London, was jailed for 12 months, David Mitchell, 19, of Littlehampton, West Sussex, was sentenced to seven months and Andrew Hudson, 26, of Hornchurch, Essex, was given an eight-month jail term.

Steven Donovan, 20, of Hayes, west London, and Thomas Armstrong, 24, of Woodford Green, Essex, were each given suspended six-month sentences.

‘Frightening spectacle’

Judge Timothy Pontius said all six had taken part in a “disgraceful display of violence” that terrified ordinary people using a busy railway station as bottles were thrown across the street during the fight.

The “pitched battle” must have been a “frightening spectacle”, he said, which required a “firm deterrent message”.

Titus, an A-level student, has previously been convicted of threatening behaviour for swearing at a police officer who was trying to break up a fight. He will be sentenced in May.

The incident took place while he was on bail following the football brawl, the Old Bailey heard.

He also has a previous caution for battery after hitting a journalist during a right-wing demonstration in December 2009.

The teenager is a prominent member of the EDL and has been interviewed on the BBC’s Newsnight programme speaking as the leader of the organisation’s youth division.

Henrietta Paget, for the prosecution, said Brentford-supporting hooligans had travelled to the scene after a game against Hartlepool, to meet rival Leyton Orient supporters, who were on their way back from a match at Colchester in Essex.

The court heard Hudson told police that there was “history” between the clubs dating back to the 1980s.

Titus said he went to the scene after hearing some commotion, but denied any knowledge of the brawl being prearranged.

All six were given football banning orders.

We disown first BNP mayor-to-be… say his own daughters

Source: Sunday Mirror

The family of a BNP activist chosen to become the far-right party’s first mayor has disowned him in disgust.

John Cave’s daughters say they are so ashamed of their father’s views and behaviour they are changing their surnames.

And they claim he had an affair while their mother had breast cancer then abandoned the family – even ignoring them if he saw them in the street.

Sales manager Donna, 27, says: “We’ve kept quiet about it for years but we want people to know he abandoned his family without a backward glance.

“The BNP is very active where we live but they are not supported by the vast majority. There’ll be riots again when he’s made mayor because people won’t like it.

“We’re changing our surname. I can’t mention it at work in case I have to discipline someone and they say I picked on them because my dad’s a racist.”

Donna’s sister Rachel, 25, says: “We’re like a secret family. He’s being talked about as some kind of upstanding member of the community and he’s not.”

BNP Mayor John Cave

British National Party member Mr Cave, who has been a councillor for 12 months, will become deputy mayor of Padiham Town Council in Burnley, Lancashire, in the next civic year. He is due to take office as mayor a year later.

He has said his role is “not about politics” but campaign group Hope Not Hate says: “The role of mayor is to act as the figurehead of a community, and we don’t see how that role can be carried out by anybody who represents a party whose sole aim is to divide.”

And division is something Cave’s daughters say they know only too well. Mr Cave married their mother Marlene in 1970 and the couple had a daughter, Victoria, but split up four years later.

They got back together and married for a second time in 1984, having the sisters and another daughter, Katie.

Donna and Rachel say they remember a happy childhood with their father, who worked as a landscape gardener.

But in 1999 after a string of rows he temporarily left the family’s home. Shortly afterwards Marlene was diagnosed with breast cancer and he returned home to support his wife and girls.

Mr Cave had become “good friends” with Sharon Wilkinson, a married mother-of-three who ran a local shop.

Donna says: “During the evenings dad would make several trips out to the shop and then walk the dog at 10pm just when she closed up. He helped her do the cash-and-carry runs. I might have been a teenager but I’m not stupid.”

The daughters claim that while their mother was having a mastectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, their father did not help as much as he could.

Donna said: “We got our own tea and got ourselves to school. He spent a lot of time with Sharon.”

And they believe it was Mrs Wilkinson – a BNP county councillor – whose influence led their father to join the party. Rachel says: “Sharon was extremely upset when an Asian family opened a bigger grocery store opposite her off licence and then began to sell alcohol. Their shop was always full and hers was always empty.”

Eventually Mr Cave split from Donna and Rachel’s mother for good, moving out of the home and later marrying Mrs Wilkinson.

Donna says: “We wanted to stay in touch and I tried to ring him but after a while he never responded. I sent him a Christmas card with a letter in it saying we understood that affairs happen and while it was upsetting we would like to have a relationship with him. He never wrote back.”

Now his daughters say their relationship with their father can never be repaired. Rachel says: “With his affair and abandoning us it’s very difficult.”

And their sister Katie, 26, says: “I saw him once a month or so for about a year or 18 months. I always had to arrange it with Nana.”

When the Sunday Mirror asked him to comment Mr Cave, who is in his early sixties, denied he had abandoned his children – who he referred to as “those people”.

He said: “What my daughters want to say is up to them.

“My divorce from their mother was not at all amicable and they seem to have taken her version of events. I’ve absolutely no comment to make about what those people say. They’ve always said that I had an affair with Sharon, but I don’t want to comment on that. As for me not being fit to be mayor, it’s not up to them is it?”

EDL openly support National Front in Newcastle

Source: Blighty Andy

23 April 2011, St George’s Day, and Newcastle (upon Tyne) starts the day with the Lord Mayor raising the St George’s Cross (England’s flag) at the Civic Centre, followed by a parade through the City Centre by the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, who also have Honorary Freedom of the City.

Unfortunately, I did not get to see the positive start to the day. As I arrived at around quarter to midday there was a sea of St George’s Flag – it was the National Front holding their annual St George’s Day rally in Newcastle. “Great,” I thought “this isn’t going to do St George’s Day any PR favours.” Why would the openly neo-Nazi National Front celebrate a Middle-Eastern man who is associated with England’s good values?

Surely if St George was living in England today then the NF would be calling for his repatriation?

Imagine Monument as a square. On the North (facing Waterstones) and East is the National Front, on the South is a festival celebrating England to ‘reclaim St George’s Day’ (progressive patriotism?) and on the West are the left-wing stalls, including Amnesty International and Coalition of Resistance, as well as Fight Racism, Fight Imperialism.

An interesting mix of groups likely to cause some shouting. The National Front kept trying to make their way towards the left-wing stalls, but a heavy police presence stopped them. Then, just as Coalition of Resistance were about to send people off for the planned UKuncut action, a group chanting “E-E-EDL” came from the South West of Monument (Also Known As Grainger Street).

What were the English Defence League, a group that claims not to be racist and doesn’t like being likened to the BNP and NF, doing at a NF rally? Like they have done in previous weeks, the EDL targeted the anti-cuts stalls. It has been reported that under a month ago one EDL member commented that he didn’t mind bankers getting large bonuses, as long as they were white.

The Police were swift to act, and quickly formed a line between the English Defence League, anti-cuts, lefties and in turn anti-fascists, and the National Front. A shouting match between the EDL and anti-fascists quickly kicked off, with support from their friends in the NF. The video footage, which you can watch at the bottom of this page, shows all of this. You can see that the EDL turned up angry and had just come out to cause trouble.

There was a much happier feeling on the anti-fascist side, as we chanted and even danced a little bit to the celebration of multiculturalism event starting off behind us, playing such songs as “Everybody Needs Somebody” and spreading messages of tolerance. The feeling on the EDL and NF sides seemed to be that of pure hate. They certainly weren’t letting of a positive vibe.

After over an hour’s stand off, the NF hurdled off together, leaving behind a few EDL members.

St George’s Day should be a celebration of this great country of England and all of its good values, not the rotten racism which peaked during the 80s. The St George’s Flag is ours. It’s not copyrighted to the NF or EDL.

A FRFI activist started off on the megaphone, shouting about how nationalism breads intolerance and that St George’s Day should not be celebrated. That sort of message turns people towards the EDL in fear of their losing their identity. Progressive Patriotism must be welcomed on the left so that particularly working class people do not feel like racism is a legitimate alternative.

On a happier note for anti-fascists, even those who do not celebrate St George’s Day, the EDL’s facebook page was taken down today.
